Dermatologists have been using chemical peels for decades to achieve improvement in skin tone, reduce lines and wrinkles, unclog the pores and remedy skin discoloration. Chemical peels come in light, medium and intense formulations to achieve different levels of exfoliation, and each can be customized to your aesthetic goals as well as your comfort level. At Total Glow, we offer Cool Peel®; a new and different kind of chemical peel that is far superior to the others.

What is a Cool Peel®?

The Cool Peel technology was developed by the Environ skincare line to bring a revolutionary new non-invasive approach to market, replacing the traditional chemical peel. Most chemical peels are formulated with Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid or Trichloroacetic Acid, and work by untethering the outermost layer of damaged skin from the face so that when it is peeled away, it reveals a more youthful, pristine complexion. Old skin cells are discarded, and a healthier glow emerges. Superficial chemical peels generally have little downtime and are used for treating sun damage and fine lines, while deeper chemical peels are often used for acne.

Unlike traditional peels, which destroy and strip the skin, Cool Peel uses a special low pH formulation, preserving the epidermis as much as possible, and making the Cool Peel comfortable and cool when applied. Cool Peel is extraordinarily gentle yet extremely effective and is the only peel that does not destroy the skin’s natural protective barrier. In addition, the Cool Peel technology stimulates the skin’s collagen cells helping to repair damage due to aging and sun exposure. The Cool Peel is completely customizable to your needs and our Total Glow team will determine the perfect peel for your skin type after an in-depth consultation at our Palo Alto offices.

FAQs about Chemical Peels

How does it work?

The Cool Peel chemical peel gently exfoliates the uppermost damaged layers of your skin, leaving the protective barrier in place. A chemical solution is applied to your face to cause the dead skin to slough off and eventually peel. There are a variety of chemical peels available to treat your specific skin concerns.

What can I expect during the treatment?

During a chemical peel, you may feel a slight burning sensation that lasts 5-10 minutes. Depending upon the type of peel, a reaction similar to a sunburn occurs following the procedure. Peeling usually involves redness followed by scaling that ends within 3-7 days. Results continue to improve over 4-6 weeks. While noticeably vibrant and rejuvenated skin will appear following your first treatment, a series of 3-6 peels may be required to achieve your ultimate skin-resurfacing goals.

What are the results?

Chemical peels effectively erase imperfections and improve skin’s tone and texture. Within 7-10 days, this quick and easy in-office treatment will reveal dramatically brand new skin. Your complexion will be firmer, clearer, healthier, and more youthful.

Is a Cool Peel chemical peel safe?

Yes, a Cool Peel is very gentle and safe for your skin—much less harsh than other chemical peels you will find elsewhere. You may experience mildly dry, red, or flaking skin for several or more days after your peel.
