Our Palo Alto Botox injections are amongst the best solutions for age-related wrinkles and fine lines, offering clients a safe, non-surgical way to roll back the clock. At Total Glow, our aestheticians and board certified plastic surgeon work together to strategically rejuvenate your skin, so you can return to your life energized for the future.
Botox technology is founded on the idea that the tiny muscles in the face contract over and over forming lines and creases. Once these tiny muscles are paralyzed, the lines can relax, providing you with a smoother complexion. Botox is made of bacterium Clostridium botulinum, a neurotoxin that can paralyze the facial muscles temporarily to achieve your cosmetic goals. Results can last up to a year, and treatment can be repeated to ensure maintenance of your improved aesthetics.
After receiving injections of Botox Palo Alto patients can enjoy the following benefits:
Our Palo Alto Botox treatment is an excellent solution for any healthy client with realistic expectations who is suffering from age-related facial wrinkles, lines, creases and folds.
Botox is also a good solution for those looking to prevent future wrinkles from forming. (Those clients with ALS, breathing disorders, bleeding disorders, heart disease or those taking blood thinners are not good candidates for Botox and will be directed towards more appropriate treatments.)
Botox isn’t about changing who you are—it’s about helping you look less stressed, less tired, and more like yourself on your best day. At Total Glow, our clients typically turn to Botox to soften lines that don’t match how they feel inside. Common concerns we treat include:
Over time, repeated facial expressions create permanent creases in the skin. Botox works by temporarily relaxing the muscles underneath, allowing the skin to smooth out and the face to regain a more rested, lifted look.
Botox is best known for its role in smoothing wrinkles, but its capabilities go far beyond softening expression lines. At Total Glow, our providers approach each face with precision and purpose, using neuromodulators not just to erase—but to refine, balance, and subtly lift. Here’s how we apply Botox across different areas of the face and neck to achieve natural, radiant results.
Horizontal forehead lines are often the first sign of aging, forming from years of lifting the brow during expressions of surprise, worry, or focus. Botox gently relaxes the overactive frontalis muscle, softening the look of these lines without making the forehead feel heavy. When treated properly, the brow retains its ability to move—just more gracefully. In some cases, a microdose is also used above the brow to create a subtle lifting effect, ideal for clients experiencing mild hooding or a tired eye appearance.
The vertical frown lines that develop between the brows—often called “11s”—can create an unintentionally stern or tense look. These lines are caused by repetitive contraction of the glabellar complex, a small group of muscles responsible for furrowing the brow. With strategic placement of Botox, we soften this area while preserving your natural expressiveness. The result is a calmer, more open appearance that still allows you to convey emotion.
Fine lines around the outer corners of the eyes—commonly known as crow’s feet—are a natural result of squinting, smiling, and sun exposure. While they can add charm to a smile, deeper creases can also signal age or fatigue. Botox smooths this area by relaxing the orbicularis oculi muscle, allowing the skin to appear softer and more refreshed. When done conservatively, the eyes maintain their sparkle and shape, just with a little less crinkle.
The lower face is a subtle but important part of overall facial harmony. Botox can be used to treat downturned corners of the mouth by relaxing the depressor anguli oris muscles, creating a lifted, more pleasant resting expression. In the chin, overactive mentalis muscles may cause a dimpled or “orange peel” texture. A small amount of Botox can soften this effect, leaving the skin smooth and the chin line more refined.
For clients with strong or prominent masseter muscles—the muscles we use to chew—Botox offers a non-surgical way to slim and contour the lower face. This treatment is particularly popular among those with a square jawline or who clench their teeth at night. By relaxing the masseters, the face takes on a more tapered, elegant shape over time. As a bonus, many clients also report a reduction in tension headaches and jaw discomfort.
As we age, vertical bands can form along the front of the neck due to hyperactivity of the platysma muscle. These bands can pull the lower face downward and create a less defined jawline. Botox injections placed carefully into the platysma can soften these cords, improve the neck’s appearance, and enhance facial contours. This technique—sometimes called the “Nefertiti Lift”—restores a graceful, elongated look to the neck without surgery.
Outside of facial aesthetics, Botox has proven highly effective in treating hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating. When injected into areas like the underarms, palms, or soles of the feet, Botox temporarily blocks the chemical signals that activate sweat glands. Clients who struggle with this condition often report a dramatic improvement in comfort, confidence, and quality of life—without needing daily topical solutions.
There’s no intensive preparation required before a Botox appointment, but a few simple considerations can help you feel more comfortable and optimize your results. In the days leading up to your treatment, it’s a good idea to avoid blood-thinning medications or supplements like aspirin, fish oil, or vitamin E, which can increase the likelihood of minor bruising at the injection sites. Alcohol should also be avoided for 24 hours prior, as it can have the same effect.
On the day of your appointment, arrive with clean skin and no makeup if possible. If you’ve recently had facials, peels, or any energy-based treatments, let us know—some treatments can temporarily affect the skin’s sensitivity. Most importantly, be ready to discuss your goals. Whether you’re looking to erase deep lines, subtly lift your brows, or prevent future wrinkles, our providers will tailor your treatment with care and precision.
Botox was the first to market and a household name. Botox helps reduce forehead lines, crow’s feet, and other facial wrinkles that can make you look angry, stressed and aged. It takes 3-4 days to take effect and lasts about 3-5 months.
Xeomin is considered an alternative to Botox. Xeomin is unique because it’s “additive-free,” so your body won’t build up any antibodies to it over time. The results are long-lasting and perfect for clients who don’t feel comfortable with the additives in Botox injections!
Dysport provides fast, fabulous results. It’s been said that Dysport is quicker to take effect and (in some instances) lasts longer than Botox.
When you come to Total Glow for treatment, you are entering an environment of total commitment to you. Terrie Absher, our Palo Alto medspa founder and Sherpa, has implemented every measure to ensure each step of your journey is met with complete attention to detail. Terrie trains every provider in the practice for months before allowing them to treat clients. This ensures each provider has “the touch” with each client, not only providing excellent results, but also making each client as comfortable as possible.
A Botox treatment at Total Glow is refreshingly fast and minimally invasive—typically completed in under 15 minutes. After a brief consultation to confirm your treatment plan, we’ll cleanse the skin and map out the precise areas where the neurotoxin will be injected. Using an ultrafine needle, your provider will place tiny amounts of Botox into specific facial muscles. Each injection takes only seconds, and discomfort is minimal.
There’s no need for anesthesia, and most clients compare the sensation to a quick pinch or mosquito bite. Once your treatment is complete, you’re free to return to your day—no need to hide, heal, or disrupt your schedule. That’s part of the reason Botox remains one of the most requested services among our busy Bay Area clientele.
Botox doesn’t deliver instant gratification, but its results unfold reliably and beautifully in the days that follow. Most clients begin to notice a softening in the treated areas within three to five days, with full effects visible by the two-week mark.
The changes aren’t drastic—they’re refined. Lines ease, tension fades, and your expression becomes lighter, more open, more rested. Depending on your natural metabolism and muscle activity, your results will typically last three to four months. Regular treatments can extend those results by training your muscles to remain relaxed, which helps prevent deeper lines from forming over time.
Recovery from Botox is quick and straightforward. You won’t need downtime, but there are a few key things to avoid immediately after treatment to ensure your results settle properly. For the first few hours, we recommend staying upright—no lying down or bending over excessively, as this helps the Botox stay precisely where it was placed. Avoid touching, rubbing, or applying pressure to the treated areas for the rest of the day. Most clients return to work, errands, or light activities without interruption. Redness, swelling, or tiny injection marks may appear briefly, but these usually fade within an hour. If mild bruising occurs, it can be covered with concealer the next day. You can resume your full skincare routine the following morning—just be gentle for the first 24 hours.
To get the most out of your Botox treatment, think of aftercare as an extension of your results. It starts with avoiding intense workouts, steam rooms, or saunas for the first day, as elevated body temperature can affect how the product settles. You’ll also want to avoid facial massages or skin treatments for at least 48 hours.
Over the long term, maintaining great skin health—hydration, sun protection, and medical-grade skincare—can help prolong the benefits of Botox. And when it’s time for your next visit, our team will be here to adjust your treatment plan based on how your muscles have responded and what your goals look like now. Consistency matters, but so does evolution. We’ll meet you where you are, every time.
Botox, Dysport and Xeomin are neurotoxins strategically injected into the face to relax the muscle and minimize the appearance of wrinkles. They greatly improve the look of moderate to severe lines between the eyebrows and crow’s feet by reducing the muscle activity that causes wrinkles to form.
The non-surgical administration of Botox, Dysport and Xeomin injections takes about 10-15 minutes. A very fine needle is inserted into the muscles of the targeted areas, quickly injecting small portions of the neurotoxin liquid. Some clients report mild, temporary discomfort from the treatments.
While you may experience a pinching sensation upon each injection, discomfort is minimal and short lived. Most clients find neuromodulator injections to be very tolerable. There is no downtime, so you can return to your regularly scheduled activities immediately after your treatment.
You can expect to see a smoother, more youthful appearance after the injections. Following treatment, results are visible within 3–5 days. However, it can take up to 2 weeks to see full results. Dysport, Xeomin and Botox are long-lasting with results for 3-5 months.
Yes! Dysport, Xeomin and Botox have all been aggressively tested and are approved by the FDA. Clients can receive treatment and return to normal activities right away. Side effects from botulinum toxin injections are typically very minor and resolve within minutes or days. The most common side effects are mild redness, tenderness, or swelling around the injection sites. Rarely, some clients report a mild headache after treatment. You can reduce any discomfort with over-the-counter pain medications.
Immediately following your treatment, there are a few measures you can take to ensure that you get the most out of your Dysport, Xeomin, or Botox injections. For the first four hours after treatment, you should not lie down to prevent the solution from migrating away from the target area. For the same reason, and to reduce the risk of infection, it is essential that you avoid rubbing the treated area for a minimum of 12 hours. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for 24 hours after treatment.
Generally, the only long-term effects that clients experience with botulinum toxin injections are the weakening of muscles and the absence of wrinkles in treated areas. However, it is possible for some people to develop botulinum toxin resistance.
In these instances, the body develops antibodies to combat botulinum toxins over time, making treatment less effective. While this rarely happens, there are strategies for overcoming botulinum toxin resistance so that all clients can maintain the efficacy of their neuromodulation treatment.
Depending on each client’s specific needs, potential courses of action include increased dosage, more frequent injections, or changing products. However, there is some evidence to suggest that increasing the volume of product or number of treatments may contribute to resistance development. Therefore, changing products is often the most appropriate course of action for clients who develop antibodies.
